Ongeveer 300 entoesiastiese honde, van alle rasse en kleure,  en hulle eienaars, het Sondag die Era-eiendomsagentskap se liefdadigheidstaptog op die Hedianga-plaas in die ooste van Pretoria, vir minderbevoorregte honde gestap.

Dogs of all shapes and sizes and colours joined their owners on Sunday at the ERA Real estate doggie walk on the Hedianga farm in Pretoria who offered their facilities to raise money supporting the Tshwane SPCA.

Meer as 300 honde van die Irwin-dierereddingsentrum in Elandsfontein moet binne die volgende twee maande almal nuwe huise kry, aangesien die Midvaal-munisipaliteit die sentrum se deure gaan sluit. Dit volg nadat daar probleme met die gebruik en sonering van die sentrum se perseel is.

IRWIN Animal Rescue Centre  in Walkerville is under threat of having to close its doors if they don’t win a court battle to keep it open.They are desperately hoping the community will come to the dogs’ rescue, and they’ll manage to “re-home” most of the dogs, if not all of them.

Die Nasionale Dierebeskermingsvereniging het die regering gevra om die teel van diere met kleurvariasies te verbied, omdat dit oneties, winsgedrewe en ’n ramp vir wildbewaring is.

The NSPCA asked the government to ban the  breeding of certain wild animals, mainly antelope  for unnatural colour mutations or morphs. This is done for profit and has  no benefit to the individual animal, the species or conservation as a whole.

Dr Peter Oberem, die president van Wildlife Ranching South Africa (WRSA), het gesê dat wildboere deur private wildtelery deur die jare verskeie wildspesies van uitwissing gered het. Die aanmerking kom nadat die Suid-Afrikaanse Jagters en Wildbewaringsvereniging kapsie gemaak het teen die teel van diere met vreemde kleurvariasies.

The president of WRSA Dr Peter Oberem said a number of game species have been saved from near extinction by private wildlife ranching and this success hinges on private ownership of wildlife.

Suid-Afrika se natuurlike hulpbronne is in die jaar 2014 op ‘n eislike skaal deur plunderaars geknou, die renosters byvoorbeeld het veral sleg daarvan afgesien met meer as 1 188 wat gesneuwel het onder stropery.

South Africa’s natural resources have taken a severe beating due to looters in the year 2014, especially the rhino’s which suffered most at the hands of poachers with more than 1 188 losses.

‘n 16 maande oue hiëna wat in ‘n strik gevang is, was besig om sy eie poot af te kou en het verskeie van sy tande teen die draad gebreek voor hy van die strik gered is en na dr. Hein Muller geneem is vir behandeling van sy wonde.

A 16 month old hyena caught in a snare, nearly chewed off his own leg and broke many of his teeth on the wire before he was rescued from the snare and taken to dr. Hein Muller who treated the traumatised animal.

Die boogkopwalvis (Balaena mysticetus) is die soogdier wat die langste kan leef, die walvis spesie kan meer as 200 jaar oud word en ly slede aan ouderdomsverwante siektes, wetenskaplikes dink die walvis kan moontlik die geheime van langlewenheid kan ontsluit.

The bowhead whale (Balaena mysticetus) is the mammal which can live the longest, this whale species can live to more than 200 years and rarely suffer from age related diseases, scientists believe that this whale may hold the key to longevity.
