Renosters se weefsel só bewaar

Die genetika-laboratorium van die Universiteit van Pretoria se fakulteit veeartsenykunde bewaar die genetiese materiaal van ongeveer 13 000 renosters, die genetiese materiaal kan gebruik word as bewysstukke in die geval van gestroopte renosters.

The genetics laboratory of the University of Pretoria’s faculty of veterinary science is the place where the genetic material of more or less 13 000 rhinos are being preserved, the material can be used as proof in rhino poaching cases.

Chemie kan renosters, horing red

Die Vredespark stigting gebruik die geld wat die Nederlandse en Sweedse loterye geskenk het, om onder meer navorsing te doen aangaande die chemiese samestelling van die renoster horing, verandering aan die samestelling van die horings kan moontlik lei tot waardevermindering daarvan.

The Vredespark foundation is using the money donated by the Dutch and Swedish lottery to research the chemical composition of the rhino horn, changing this composition may lead to depreciation of the horn.

Onthoring: Narkose is risiko werd, sê vereniging

Volgens die Suid-Afrikaanse Veterinêre Vereniging (SAVV) het renosters wat onthoring is ‘n 30% kans om stropery te oorleef, die voordeel hiervan is onlangs opgeweeg teen die risiko wat daarmee gepaard gaan om narkose aan renosters toe te dien.

According to the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC) dehorned rhino have a 30% chance of surviving the poaching craze, the advantages of this fact was weighed against the dangers of anaesthetising these animals.

Alle renosters dalk uit Krugerwildtuin verwyder

Die Krugerwildtuin wag op die regering se aankondiging om te hoor of alle renosters uit die wildtuin uit verwyder moet word om hulle sodoende teen stropery te beskerm.

The Kruger National Park awaits the government’s announcement on whether all the rhinos have to be removed from the park in order to protect them against poaching.

Twee mans is deur ‘n onthoringde renosterkoei aangeval toe sy uit ‘n sleepwa uitgerbreek het naby Thabazimbi.

Two men were injured by a rhino cow when the animal broke out of a trailer while being transported close to Thabazimbi.

Johan Jooste, commander of special projects in the Kruger National Park says up to 90 percent of poachers in the Kruger National Park comes from Mozambique.

Sponssiekte eis 35 van grootste SA boer se 1000 renosters

John Hume, die land se grootste renosterboer, het 35 renosters onlangs verloor toe ‘n uitbraak van sponssiekte op sy plaas naby Klerksdorp uitbreek.

John Hume, the largest rhino farmer in the country, recently lost 35 rhino’s due to a blackquarter outbreak on his farm close to Klerksdorp.

Beseerde renoster van kant gemaak

Die beseerde renoster koei is gister in die Krugerwildtuin van kant gemaak nadat sy in ‘n baie slegte toestand gevind is met ‘n koeël in haar kop.

The injured rhino in the Kruger National Park was found yesterday but had to be euthanased due to her bad condition and a suspected bullet wound in her head.

Nederland, Swede skenk miljoene vir stropery-stryd

Nederland en Swede se poskodelotery het dié week R232,2 miljoen aan die Vredespark-stigting geskenk.

The Holland and Sweden postcode lottery donated R232,2 million to the Peace Parks Foundation this last week.
