Suid-Afrika se natuurlike hulpbronne is in die jaar 2014 op ‘n eislike skaal deur plunderaars geknou, die renosters byvoorbeeld het veral sleg daarvan afgesien met meer as 1 188 wat gesneuwel het onder stropery.
South Africa’s natural resources have taken a severe beating due to looters in the year 2014, especially the rhino’s which suffered most at the hands of poachers with more than 1 188 losses.

Nadat die polisie inligting verkry het dat ‘n renoster miskien op ‘n wildsplaas in Limpopo gestroop kan word, het hulle in samewerking met die plaas eienaar en ‘n private veiligheidsmaatskappy die omgewing fyn dop gehou en drie mans gearresteer voordat hulle die renoster kon stroop.
After police in Limpopo received a tip of possible rhino poaching on a game farm in this province they immediately joined forces with the owner of the farm and a private security company regarding careful surveillance of the farm which made it possible to arrest three men before they could poach the rhino.

Die genetika-laboratorium van die Universiteit van Pretoria se fakulteit veeartsenykunde bewaar die genetiese materiaal van ongeveer 13 000 renosters, die genetiese materiaal kan gebruik word as bewysstukke in die geval van gestroopte renosters.
The genetics laboratory of the University of Pretoria’s faculty of veterinary science is the place where the genetic material of more or less 13 000 rhinos are being preserved, the material can be used as proof in rhino poaching cases.

In Viëtnam het die vraag na renosterhoring met 38% afgeneem die afgelope 14 maande as gevolg van die bewusmakingsveldtogte wat regoor die land in skole en stede aangebied word aangaande die ware eienskappe van renosterhoring.
The demand for rhino horn have decreased with 38% during the last 14 months in Vietnam, this is largely due to awareness campaigns regarding the true characteristics of rhino horn in schools and cities across the country.

‘n Wildboer van Limpopo het ál sy renosters verkoop, hy is tans in ‘n regstryd met die departement van omgewingsake gewikkel om die handel in renosterhoring wettig te maak.
A game farmer from Limpopo sold all his rhino, he is currently involved in a legal battle with the department of environmental affairs to legalise trade in rhino horns.

Rhinos are being moved from the densely populated areas of the southern part of the Kruger National Park to safer areas, a limited amount will also be sold on an auction.

15 South Africans traveled more than 3 000 km through Botswana’s unspoiled wilderness in 4×4’s, rooftop tents and off road camping trailers, they met leopards, rhino and even hyenas to name but a few.

Die Vredespark stigting gebruik die geld wat die Nederlandse en Sweedse loterye geskenk het, om onder meer navorsing te doen aangaande die chemiese samestelling van die renoster horing, verandering aan die samestelling van die horings kan moontlik lei tot waardevermindering daarvan.
The Vredespark foundation is using the money donated by the Dutch and Swedish lottery to research the chemical composition of the rhino horn, changing this composition may lead to depreciation of the horn.

Volgens die Suid-Afrikaanse Veterinêre Vereniging (SAVV) het renosters wat onthoring is ‘n 30% kans om stropery te oorleef, die voordeel hiervan is onlangs opgeweeg teen die risiko wat daarmee gepaard gaan om narkose aan renosters toe te dien.
According to the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC) dehorned rhino have a 30% chance of surviving the poaching craze, the advantages of this fact was weighed against the dangers of anaesthetising these animals.

Die Krugerwildtuin wag op die regering se aankondiging om te hoor of alle renosters uit die wildtuin uit verwyder moet word om hulle sodoende teen stropery te beskerm.
The Kruger National Park awaits the government’s announcement on whether all the rhinos have to be removed from the park in order to protect them against poaching.
